Project Soane_Submission

Just over a year ago (03 Jun 2016 at 19:31 – to be precise), I participated in a competition that was meant as a re-imagining of the original design for the Bank of England. The original building by Sir John Soane’s was destroyed.

Described by some as the greatest architectural crime of the 20th century.

The idea of the competition was to recreate the building in a manner that can be experienced as a historical heirloom. My imagining was to have a portion of the bank used as an entertainment/staging area for music or artistic purposes. I enlisted the large rectangular room of the Consols Transfer Room as the venue.

My main design theory was have the space be experienced in an ethereal manner, with the beauty of the interior building to encompass you – as you enjoy the music or art portrayed to you.

I hope you enjoy the imaging as much as I made them.
